DWI Substance Abuse Assessment
If you have been arrested and charged with a DWI in Charlotte North Carolina, you will need to have a substance abuse assessment completed if you intend to petition for a pre-trial limited driving privilege. There are a number of assessment centers here in the Mecklenburg County area, and the cost is $100.00. This initial assessment takes approximately 30 minutes to complete, and treatment recommendations will be made. For the LDP, you do not have to complete the treatment, just the assessment itself. The assessment report is valid for six months. If you ultimately plead guilty or are convicted of the DWI charge, you will have to then finish all treatment recommendations required as part of your sentence. If your case is resolved after six months, you will have to have a second assessment and pay an additional $100.00 fee.
First Time Charged with DWI
For most clients, this is their first DUI arrest and charge. As a result, unless you have a significantly high blood alcohol concentration (BAC) level, the treatment recommended will be the minimum 16 hours. Most individuals find the information shared to be generally helpful and often apply what they learn to their lives. For others who have prior drinking and driving issues or a family history of alcohol dependency issues, additional hours of treatment and possibly even referral for more formal medical intervention may be suggested.
