The NC State Highway Patrol has charged 12 people in connection with an alcohol related car accident that occurred in February. The accident happened in Johnston County. An 18 year old high school student was killed in the accident. He was a passenger in the vehicle that crashed. The driver of the vehicle was 17 years old and has been charged with felony death by vehicle, DWI, underage possession of alcohol, possession of marijuana and reckless driving.
After the accident police begin to investigate to try to discover how the minors obtained alcohol. Police were able to find a 21 year old man who gave alcohol to the minors the day before the accident occurred. The man has been charged with 16 counts of aiding and abetting underage persons in purchasing and possessing alcohol. Additionally police charged another 16 year old with 11 counts of aiding and abetting underage person in purchasing and possession alcohol as well as underage purchase of alcohol because they believe he paid for the alcohol and hosted a party at his home.
Nine other teenagers have received charges for underage drinking in connection with the party that the 16 year old hosted the night of the incident.
