A man from Netwon was killed in a car accident early last week. The accident occurred in Hickory on N.C. 127 near N.C. 10. A vehicle was traveling southbound when it swerved over into the northbound lane. The southbound vehicle hit the victim’s car head on around 7:19 p.m. The victim was taken to the hospital but died later from injuries he received in the accident. A passenger that was in the victim vehicle was also transported to the hospital but did not sustain life threatening injuries.
The driver of the offending vehicle was taken to the hospital and treated for minor injuries. He has been charged with DWI, driving with a revoked license, driving left of center and failure to wear a seatbelt. The driver does not admit to consuming alcohol before the crash but admitted to taking Klonopin pills. A blood test was taken from the driver. Other charges will likely be filed against the driver.
