In October of 2010 a couple who was driving in Charlotte was struck by a drunk driver. The driver and passenger of the vehicle that was hit by the drunk driver were critically injured. As a result of the accident one of the passengers who was six months pregnant at the time lost her unborn child. The driver who was intoxicated died at the scene of the accident.

The intoxicated driver had just left Eddie’s Place Restaurant and Bar which is located in the Cotsworld area of Charlotte. After leaving the bar he was driving over 100 mph down Providence Road. He had a BAC of .23 which is well above the legal limit of .08.

The couple who was hit by the intoxicated driver filed a civil lawsuit against the bill. They were just recently awarded $1.7 million by the jury. North Carolina does have laws in place which prohibit establishments from serving customers who are intoxicated.
