The Belmont Police Department recently changed its policy regarding checkpoints. The policy was changed after police chased a suspect who fled from a checkpoint. The suspect ended up crashing into another vehicle killing a former mayor and a passenger in that vehicle.
Officers will now be required to have their dash cams set up in a manner to be able to record every angle of the area where the checkpoint is set up. Additionally a minimum of three officers must be at the checkpoint. The department did not change their policy with regard to police pursuits.
