Going out with friends and drinking can be a pretty fun time. Still, if you end up with drunk friends, then you need to know how to take care of them. After all, it’s important to look out for your friends and make sure everyone stays safe…
Drunk Friends: Lend A Hand
Stay with them
One of the most important things to do when helping drunk friends is to stay with them. Leaving them alone can be risky for a couple reasons. First, they may keep drinking and potentially put themselves at risk for alcohol poisoning. Also, they may wonder off somewhere they don’t know, putting them in potential danger.
This is why it’s good to keep with them as they sober up. If you need to leave to do something, try to have another friend watch them in the meantime. That way, you won’t have to worry about them being alone if something else comes up.
Cut off the alcohol
Of course, when caring for a drunk friend, you don’t want them to get any more intoxicated. Instead, you should be helping them sober up. Therefore, be sure you help them by cutting them off from any more drinks.
Rather, try to get them to eat some food and drink some water. Now, it could be that they get a bit aggressive when you try and do this. It’s helpful to avoid sounding like you’re demanding them to do something, but instead like you’re just trying to help them.
Keep them upright
It’s also key to ensure your drunk friends remain in a safe position. It’s possible that they may say they want to lay down, and presumably sleep. This might seem fine, especially if you’re at their house, but it could be dangerous as well.
The thing is, a heavily intoxicated person laying on their back or stomach is very unsafe. This is because if the person throws up, then they’re at risk of choking or suffocating. That’s why you should make sure they sit upright, or lay down on their side. Placing something like a pillow in front of and behind them is good too, as it’ll help prevent them from rolling over.
