Henderson County law enforcement in North Carolina stepped up patrols during the holiday season in order to deter intoxicated drivers and keep the roads safe. Eight people were charged with DWI as a result of random patrols. The Laurel Park Police, Henderson County Sheriff’s Office, Fletcher Police Department and the North Carolina Highway Patrol set up a DWI checkpoint on Dec. 31 which ran for three hours starting at 11 p.m. Officers charged nine drivers during that time period, two of which were charged with DWI.

Additionally the Hendersonville Police Department charged two people with DWI between December 23rd and January 2nd. Over the same time span the North Carolina Highway Patrol made six DWI arrests in Henderson County, Transylvania County, and Polk County.
