The Burgaw Police Department in Pender County, NC recently received a grant to assist the department in stopping intoxicated drivers. The new grant will give the department money to get equipment in order to set up DWI checkpoints. Some of the equipment the department received includes signs, police lights, and halogen lights.
The department has not been able to set up a large scale DWI checkpoint in nearly three years. The department now hopes to be able to set up checkpoints at least once a month. The area has been experiencing an increase in the number of DWI arrests the past few years and hopefully this grant will help cut these numbers down.
