A jury in Edgecombe County found a woman guilty of 2nd degree murder due to a fatal DWI accident she caused. The incident occurred in May 2012. The woman ran a stop sign and hit a motorcycle. The driver of the motorcycle was killed. A passenger in the woman’s car survived but was seriously hurt. It was discovered during the trial her BAC at the time of the accident was a .40, which is well above the legal limit of .08.

In addition to 2nd degree murder, the woman was also convicted of driving while license revoked, reckless driving and felony injury by vehicle. The woman was not convicted of DWI because she was convicted of 2nd degree murder. The woman had a previous conviction of DWI on her record from 2010. She will be receiving up to 17 years in prison.
