The defendant in a DWI and involuntary manslaughter case that has been ongoing in Onslow County received a jury verdict. The trial lasted just a week. The evidence introduced at trial showed that the defendant was intoxicated when he left the bar to drive his vehicle with four other passengers in the car. Two of the passengers were killed in the accident. The defendant fled the scene of the accident but was apprehended later by police.
The defendant was found guilty of two counts of involuntary manslaughter among other charges. He also has several other pending charges not related to this case including another DWI charge. A sentencing hearing is now being conducted on the charges he was convicted of this week.
